Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you’ve wondered about working with a concierge travel agency — answered plainly, the way we’d explain it over coffee.

Working With Us

Why use a travel agent instead of booking online myself?

Booking sites show you what’s available. We show you what’s right for you — and we stand behind it. As a Signature Travel Network agency, we often have access to early-release cabins, amenities, and pricing you won’t find on the big booking sites. And when a flight cancels or plans change mid-trip, you call us, not a 1-800 line. That safety net is the difference.

What happens on a Discovery Call?

It’s a relaxed 30-minute conversation — by phone, or a Zoom meeting we set up and walk you through. We ask about the trip you’re imagining, your travel pace, what excites you, and what worries you. There’s no sales pitch and no obligation. You’ll leave the call knowing whether we’re a good fit. Schedule with Ada or schedule with Susan.

What is the $400 itinerary design fee, and what do I get for it?

The fee covers the professional research and design of your custom trip: comparing cruise lines, sailings, and cabin locations; checking early-release inventory; coordinating flights, transfers, and pre- or post-cruise hotel stays; and revising the plan with you until it’s exactly right. It’s how we work for you rather than for whoever pays the highest commission — and we explain it up front, before you commit to anything.

Do you only work with travelers 55 and older?

The 55+ traveler is our specialty, but not our boundary. We also plan trips for families, couples, singles, and multi-generational groups. If you want thoughtful, personal planning, you’re our kind of client.

How do payments work? Do I pay you or the cruise line?

Aside from the itinerary design fee, your trip payments go directly to the cruise line, hotel, or supplier — on their secure systems, under your name. We help you understand deposit schedules and final payment dates so nothing sneaks up on you.

Before You Sail

Should I buy travel insurance?

We strongly recommend it, and we’ll walk you through what a policy does and doesn’t cover — trip cancellation, medical care abroad, evacuation, and delays. Many travelers don’t realize Medicare generally doesn’t cover you outside the United States. We’ll help you compare options so you can choose confidently.

I have mobility or accessibility concerns. Can you still plan a cruise for me?

Absolutely — this is one of the things we’re proudest of. We plan accessible travel regularly: accessible staterooms, ports that are easier to navigate, shore excursions matched to your pace, and equipment arrangements when needed. Tell us what you need on your Discovery Call and we’ll design around it.

I’m not comfortable with travel apps and technology. Will that be a problem?

Not at all — we’ll teach you. Part of our concierge service is patiently training you on the cruise line’s app, online check-in, digital boarding documents, and using your phone abroad. By the time you sail, the technology will feel like a convenience instead of a hurdle.

While You Travel

What if something goes wrong during my trip?

You call us. A missed connection, a cabin issue, a change of plans — we get on it while you get back to your vacation. Our support doesn’t end when you book; it ends when you’re home safe with stories to tell.

What are your hosted group cruises?

Several times a year we host group sailings where like-minded travelers cruise together — with group perks, planned excursions, and a friendly face from IFAT on board to help with anything you need. They’re a wonderful option if you’d love to cruise but don’t want to go it alone. Ask about upcoming sailings on your Discovery Call.
